'Madonna and Child' - Oil on Canvas - Mark Fraser - Original size 107x70 (inc. frame)

Inspired by 'Madonna del Granduca' painted in 1505 by Raphael, this painting is a Modernist inerpretation of the original piece. The piece is very much in the Abstract Impressionism style and whilst inspired by the beutifully rich colouring of the original incorporates unconventional references to colour value divisions often observed in historic stained glass windows. 

Displayed on two seperate canvasses mounted in an antique French frame, with focus purely on the foreground subject matter floating on a warm wash backgroud - the artist has retained the warmth and feeling of the original piece whilst radically changing the approach and representation.

Mark is passionate about religious iconography and art, and also post impressionism - two loves which collide to result in this painting.
